Klone Lab has bought the IPATH skate brand from Timberland, which had acquired it in August 2007. Timberland had to take total impairment charges of $13.2 million in the second quarter of last year because IPATH hadn't met forecasts for earnings and growth. Shop-eat-surf.com reports that Timberland's chief executive, Jeff Swartz, told staff members in a memo that IPATH's had a 40 percent increase in sales in the last year, both in the U.S. and internationally. However, Timberland had decided the IPATH didn't fit with the company's goal of being No. 1 in outdoor products. Massachusetts-based Klone Lab licenses New Balance sandals, slides and open-toe products.
