Kmart and Sears Roebuck have merged to form the third-largest generalist retailer in the USA after Wal-Mart and Target, operating like them in the mass market. Called Sears Holdings, the new group has total revenues of $42.3 billion, 2,350 generalist stores and 1,100 specialty stores. The group’s buyers have already started to renegotiate their contracts with the suppliers, asking for higher quantity discounts.
