Leather and footwear exports from Tunisia are suffering, according to the president of that country’s National Leather and Footwear Federation. Ahmed Bouassida said in World Footwear that the value of exports in these two segments had fallen by 11 percent since November, due to the economic downturn Europe. He told the magazine that his company, Sopic, which makes footwear and uppers, had seen orders fall by 20-25 percent, and that some other companies he knew of had shut down.
