Levi’s wants to sell its Dockers brand of jeans, apparently to raise badly needed cash. Six companies are reportedly bidding for this hot property, raising some concern among the brand’s two licensees in the USA, Genesco and Maxwell Shoe, and Gerli, which reached a settlement last year on its exclusive rights for its Dockers footwear in Europe. The new owner of the brand will have to stick to the terms of that settlement, but Gerli would like to improve the clauses of the deal. Gerli’s sales of Dockers shoes declined by less than 3 percent last year to about €38 million as gains in Italy, Spain and France partially offset a decline in the tough German market. They are expected to be more or less flat this year.
