Like in April, retail sales of shoes continued to decline slightly in May in Germany, as compared to the same months of one year ago. They were down by 2 percent, according to the Institut für Handelsforschung, with a drop of 0.8 percent excluding inflation. In spite of this, German shoe retailers' sales were 5 percent higher in absolute terms for the first five months of the year. They were up by 4 percent in volume.
