Luxat, the footwear specialist based in the French town of Briscous in the Basque area, has filed for bankruptcy protection. The company's owner, Jean-Luc Ferlicchi, told local media that he hopes it will be for a period of only six months and he hopes for an upturn in business in that time. The company reported losses for the last two years, attributed to a drop in orders, tougher worldwide competition and decreases in sales prices. Luxat has 104 employees, 82 of whom work in its Briscous warehouse.
