Marc Shoes has signed a distribution contract with Sports Connection of Denmark for the Danish and Swedish markets. The 75-year-old German company has a lot of potential for higher sales outside the German-speaking countries, which currently represent only about 5 percent of its turnover, compared with a ratio of around 50 percent for Berkemann and Solidus, the other two brands of Thomas Bauerfeind's group. Bernd Hillen, the former executive of Birkenstock who has been named sales and marketing manager for the group, is looking at various options. The group had more or less flat sales of around €60 million last year, but Marc recorded a small sales decline, partly because of a shift in production from Indonesia to India and the termination of its relationship with Leiser, the German shoe retail chain acquired by Josef Seibel.
