Messe Düsseldorf is expecting 150 to 250 exhibitors from approximately 20 nations for its first edition of its new Global Leather Show next March 5-7, 2006, at the same time as the GDS fair. It has reserved 5,000 square meters of space in Hall for the new event, which is meant to attract a more international audience than Offenbach’s International Leather Goods fair at the same time of the year. Like the combination of the MICAM and MIPEL shows in Milan, the new coupling is in response to requests coming from manufacturers and retailers of leathergoods around the world. An independent survey conducted at the GDS held last March, which showed that 60 percent of the 38,000 international shoe buyers polled also sell leathergoods in their stores. It also found that 13 percent of GDS’ visitors are interested in looking at international leathergoods offerings. Exhibitors at the GDS will not be allowed to display anything exhibited at GLS, and vice versa.
