More German retailers are taking advantage of the benefits of multi-channel trading. According to a survey conduced by the German retail federation, HDE, 13 percent of German retailers generated more than 10 percent of their sales over the internet during the 2012 Christmas shopping season. About 50 percent of the respondents stated that sales over the internet accounted for less than 10 percent of their sales. Online sales reached €7.4 billion in Germany at the end of the Christmas season in 2012, compared with €6.5 billion in the same period of the previous year. HDE expects sales over the internet to increase by 12 percent in 2013.
