New Balance is inviting important personalities to a reception in the British Houses of Parliament to celebrate the production of the 14 millionth shoe after 28 years of manufacturing in Britain. Its British factory in Flimby, which currently employs 222 people, produces or assembles an average of 4,600 pairs of shoes per day. The company says it now takes only 24 minutes to turn out a pair of shoes at its British factory, representing 15 percent of the total cost of making it, thanks to a combination of teamwork and technology. New Balance uses modular manufacturing process at the plant, allowing workers to move back from one task to another.
