Nordstrom and some other American department store chains, such as Macy's, Kohl's and Saks, have reported double-digit increases in profits for the second quarter of this year. In particular, Nordstrom said that shoes, cosmetics and designer fashion were the best categories in its own stores, whose sales rose by 12.4 percent to $2.72 billion in the quarter, with a gain of 7.3 percent on a comparable store basis. It was the seventh consecutive quarter of same-store growth for Nordstrom. Promotional events helped to boost the turnover. The gross margin rose by 1.3 percentage points and net earnings went up by 20 percent to $175 million.
