P2i, which makes ion-mask nanocoating for water repellency, was named the Most Innovative Company in Europe and the 2011 International Business Awards, taking home an International Stevie Award. The Stevie Award is named after the Greek word meaning “crowned,” and the honor goes to a company that has excelled globally. P2i's winning technology coats every fiber of a shoe but is just nanometers thick, invisible to the naked eye. The coating keeps footwear breathable, but repels water and resists dirt and scuffs. The company said it was currently working on coatings that would resist microbes, scratches and stains. More than 3,000 entries were received for the awards competition, up by 80 percent over last year.
