From February, Birkenstock will sell in selected stores worldwide and on the site 1774.com footwear designed by four students of Central Saint Martins.

The German company started working with the London-based college in 2018 when it commissioned the BA Fashion History & Theory course to work on its archive. In a second project, it invited MA Fashion students to reinterpret the brand’s style.

A jury of 12 industry leaders led by Birkenstock’s chief executive, Oliver Reichert, the director of the MA Fashion course, Fabio Piras, and a fashion critic, Sarah Mower, shortlisted 10 finalists, out of which the four winners were chosen. The collection will be supported by a campaign that will be shot in Paris by the photographer Walter Pfeiffer.
