The demand for sandals and open-toe shoes skyrocketed in Russia during the past few weeks in the wake of an abnormal heat wave in the European part of the country, the Russian marketplace Lamoda reported.

Sales of sandals jumped by 182 percent and grew by 164 percent for open-toes shoes during June, the company estimated.

June 23 set the absolute record for any day in June when the temperature reached 34.8 °C. Recent forecasts indicate that the heat wave may last until August.
