As in many other countries, bicycles have become a hot commodity in Russia as an ecological alternative to public transport, in order to avoid contamination from the novel coronavirus, while keeping fit. Even a leading Russian footwear retailer, Obuv Rossii, has begun selling bicycles, handling after-sale servicing in its own stores. For space reasons, they are only offered in 30 stores in five Siberian cities. They are made by a Siberian-based company, Sibwells. The move is part of the company’s strategy of diversifying its product portfolio. Obuv Rossii is introducing products other than shoes, targeting a share of 50 percent of sales by the end of this year. In the first quarter of 2020, it was already at a level of 43.5 percent.
