The Scottish footwear retailer Schuh has reopened its e-commerce platform, which new health and safety standards in the U.K. had temporarily closed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The site will now operate with a maximum staff of 10, two-meter spacing between workers and site sanitization. According to the company, the staff has accepted to work “in a consensual manner and with the option to remain at home and continue to be paid for the interim.” Schuh said that the decision to resume online trading “is critical to preserve our business and is based upon government guidelines.” It said also that it had been among the first footwear retailers to close its stores with the outbreak of Covid-19 in the U.K. and among “the few fashion retailers across the country to close online and fulfilment operations, following contradictory advice.”
