Rohde is shutting down its relatively small factory in Hallein, Austria, which has been making mainly lounge shoes. The large German shoe company formally entered insolvency proceedings last June 1, and its court-appointed trustees are now envisaging its sale by the end of 2007. Three or four parties are reportedly interested in the acquisition. The European Commission has just approved the support given by the state of Hessen, reportedly involving credit guarantees of €2.75 million, to help finance the production for the next six months at Rohde’s German factory in Schwalmstadt, which employs about 500 people.
