Ruth Emily Davey's handmade leather footwear has earned her the Balvenie Young Master of Craft 2011 award. Davey, a 24-year-old in Wales, applied for the first-ever Balvenie Masters of Craft awards, which were designed to honor those doing handcrafting work in the U.K. Davey had a five-year apprenticeship with Welsh shoemaker Alan Raddon, then started up her own workshop last year. Customers either visit the workshop or send in their measurements through her website for their customized, handmade shoes.
