Salamander has appointed Jochen Haag, 51, to the executive board responsible for international retail operations, effective on April 1. The German-based shoe producer and retailer, which has been fully owned by the Ara Group since 2016, also appointed Jens Keller, manager of commercial operations at Salamander since 2012, as “speaker” (general manager) of the executive board. Thomas Schmies, chief financial officer of Ara Shoes, has left Salamander's executive board. He had taken over temporarily the post at Salamander after Kresimir Zovak, the former chief executive of Salamander, joined the managing board of Ara Shoes. Haag has more than twenty years of experience in the retail business in sales and business development and as a managing director at companies such as Yves Rocher, Pimkie and Monsoon. He will take care of Salamander's network of about 250 shoe stores outside Germany. They are located in Austria, France, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Russia. In France, which is the second-largest market for Salamander after Germany with 42 points of sale, the banner has just inaugurated a new store format on Paris' central rue Tronchet. Another new format, concentrating on comfort shoes, has been inaugurated in Vienna.
