Satra, the U.K.-based “knowledge, research and testing” company that is celebrating its 100th anniversary, has developed a technique for 3D scans which, it claims, is accurate to three-hundredths of a millimeter and takes only minutes to complete. As the company explains, the technique makes it possible to compare new samples with tested samples, weathered materials with unweathered materials, molded products with their molds, and lasts with the computer-aided design files used to generate them. The technique can also help reverse-engineer testing equipment.
