Seeing a need for more space, Skechers is building a 60,000-square-foot office across the street from its current headquarters in Manhattan Beach, California, effectively doubling it in size. The building will house some 200 designers and technicians who already work for the company, squeezed into the present head office, as well as new showrooms for its numerous footwear lines. The new facility was planned through a deal between Skechers’ wholly owned subsidiary, Duncan Investments, and Morley Construction Company. Its cost is not supposed to exceed $18.1 million because of a guaranteed maximum payment clause tied to the agreement. If the construction costs less than $18.1 million, Morley and Duncan will share the savings, but Morley is obligated to cover any cost that exceeds $18.1 million.
