Tax-free sales to Middle Eastern customers in Milan's Montenapoleone district, the high-end shopping area in town, jumped by 56 percent in the first quarter of 2019. According to recent data from Global Blue, the average spent also increased significantly, with a 19 percent rise versus the same period in 2018. Global Blue, a tourism shopping tax refund company, held a new edition of “Sales Cultural Training Middle East” last May 6 in Milan, in collaboration with Montenapoleone District – the association that represents the 150 luxury brands in the shopping area in and around Milan's Via Montenapoleone – to discuss opportunities for better welcoming consumers from the Middle East region.
