The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), the public policy and political voice of the apparel and footwear industry in the U.S., has just released the thirteenth edition of the AAFA Restricted Substances List (RSL), in conjunction with the International Product Safety & Restricted Substances Conference in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Oct. 9. The list, covering apparel, footwear, and home textiles, is reviewed and updated every six months. It includes the chemicals and other substances whose presence in a product is restricted through a government regulation or law. The thirteenth release of the list reflects the changes spurred by the EU's REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances), as well as other state and international regulations. The AAFA RSL is made available in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Spanish versions and can be downloaded free of charge from the AAFA website, along with a wide set of other chemical management tools and state-specific resources.
