The Australian government is offering grants worth 2.5 million Australian dollars (€1.2m-$1.7m) to small businesses as part of its Textile, Clothing and Footwear Small Business Program. Companies can receive up to A$50,000 (€24,660-$33,000) per project from the program. Its goal is to boost the competitiveness of smaller designers and producers both at home and where they export. Singled out are businesses that are innovative in mentoring, marketing and branding, supply chains, e-commerce and export opportunity development. More than 48,000 workers are employed in the textile, clothing and footwear industries in Australia, which export A$1.6 billion (€789.2m-$1,056.7m) worth of products each year.
