The British Footwear Association, which groups 90 large and small producers and importers, has taken over the secretariat of the Independent Footwear Retailers Association, following the retirement of IFRA’s long-time secretary general, Arthur Spencer-Bolland. IFRA has about 300 members, including some 250 retailers who own 1,200 shoe shops. Niall Campbell, secretary general of the BFA, plans to try to bring in some of the large chains. The BFA recently took over also the secretariat of the Society of Shoe Fitters, which represents more than 200 individuals, as its former head, Laura West, joined her husband Nick in setting up Geox’ UK subsidiary.
