The chamber of commerce for the area around Arzignano, in Northern Italy, has announced a project to make the Chiampo valley “green.” The valley is the home of 860 leather businesses with 10,000 employees and sales of €3 billion a year. The chamber said that exports had fallen by nearly a third since the economic recession that started in 2008, so a new eco-friendly banner would help relaunch the leather industry in Arzignano. The initiative has the support of Unic, the country's National Union for the Tanning Industry.
