The French federation of independent shoe retailers has instituted a certification label, distinguishing those that agree to respect about 50 different quality criteria regarding their technical know-how, their ability to advise customers about the most suitable products for them, and so on. The store personnel must have been trained by a body certified by the federation. An independent institute will check every two years whether the criteria are still being followed. Garant has agreed to sponsor the initiative, recommending it to its retail members in France. The federation hopes to get at least 90 retailers certified before the end of this year. Those who qualify for the quality label will be listed on a website that can be consulted by the public at large.
