The German footwear industry recorded an 8.8 percent increase in total sales to €2.518 billion in 2014, as compared to the previous year., says HDS/L, the industry's association. While there was a 5.7 percent increase in the first half as compared to the same period the previous year, the rise in the second half was 12.5 percent. German suppliers saw a 12.9 percent increase of their domestic sales to €1,915 billion in 2014, but in other markets, their sales dropped by 2.4 percent as compared to the previous year. The share of foreign sales decreased from 26.7 to 23.9 percent. The number of companies in the German shoe industry dropped from 41 in 2013 to 39 in 2014. In total, Germany has 80 shoe manufacturers of various sizes, not all of them being recorded for the official statistics. The German footwear industry is reserved about the sales in the first half of the current business year. It expects orders for the coming seasons to be restrained owing to a very mild winter and the crisis abroad, especially in Russia and the Ukraine. However, the overall economic conditions are very positive.
