The German shoe manufacturer Peter Kaiser is closing down a part of its production in Pirmasens, Germany. In order to maintain the company's competitiveness, Peter Kaiser sees the need to relocate parts of its production to its own factory in Portugal. In a first step, the company will be cutting back one-fourth of its production in Pirmasens, and further arrangements will be carried out until March 2013. Peter Kaiser has about 450 employees at its head office in Pirmasens. Newspapers in Germany report that about 100 jobs will be cut. The company aims to limit the number of layoffs for operational reasons.
