The German/Chinese leather producer ISA Tan Tec has opened Vietnam's first eco-friendly tannery, in Binh Duong province. It went over its $8.7 million budget in building the $12 million facility, which will provide leather that meets standards for energy and water consumption set by the British Leather Technology Centre. It will take about 30 percent less energy and 50 percent less water to produce the leather there. It will employ about 300 workers. ISA Tan Tec runs another eco-friendly tannery in China.
