The latest Social Innovation Tournament, held in Dublin and sponsored by the European Investment Bank, has named its finalists. Zouri Shoes, the Portuguese company that develops ecological and vegan footwear, has won second-best project of the year in the circular-economy category, beating many of the 200 other proposals from all over Europe. This first international award bodes well for the company, as, according to the founder, Adriana Mano, Zouri is “already moving towards European markets.” Each pair of Zouri's shoes amounts to the recycling of six plastic bottles fished from the ocean. The company also invites consumers to send it their used shoes for reuse in “urban furniture.”
