The nearly 13,500 employees of the German shoe industry are requesting a 6 percent increase in wages, starting Oct. 1, after previously obtained increases of 2.2 percent in  January 2013 and 1.4 percent in March. Represented by their trade association, HDS/L, their employers find their requests much too high. The situation may lead to strike action, according to observers. The first negotiating round is planned for Sept. 30, after the cancellation of a previously scheduled meeting.
