The operating margin of Jones Apparel Group’s wholesale footwear and accessories segment declined to 13.3 percent in the 3rd quarter ended Sept. 30 from 17.8 percent in the year-ago period, while its revenues grew marginally to $276.0 million. Nevertheless the management told investors that it was encouraged by the continued improvement within its businesses, particularly for Nine West Group, Anne Klein and the Joan & David footwear brand. Comparable store sales in company-owned footwear and ready-to-wear stores grew by 5.1 percent except for Barneys New York, where they were up by 12.4 percent. Excluding Polo Jeans, which is no longer part of the group, total revenues grew marginally to $1,249.1 million for the quarter. Adjusted net income declined to $70.9 million from $89.0 million.
