The Russian police has launched an investigation into the murder last Jan. 18 of Pier Paolo Antinori in Moscow. The 52-year-old official was stabbed by a thief who came away with a large sum of money that Antinori was carrying in a car in behalf of several Italian shoe firms exhibiting at Konsumexpo, a mass market fair in Moscow where a total of 65 companies from his province of Fermo where exhibiting. Reports indicate that he held between €400,000 and €1 million, and that a large part of the money was cash given by Russian retailers to some Italian companies for payment of orders made at the MICAM show in Milan last September. This system is reportedly used by many firms in the region of Le Marche to help avoid taxes.
