The shoe manufacturers association in Malaysia says the industry there is benefiting from labor shortages in China. The country, which exported 690 million Malaysian ringgits (€172.0m-$220.4m) worth of footwear to 20 countries in 2009, is expecting the export value to grow by 11 percent this year. Malaysia has some 500 shoe manufacturers employing 30,000 people and making some 70 million pairs annually. Approximately 30 percent of the total is exported to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Middle Eastern markets, the U.K., Germany and Italy.
