The Spanish shoe industry association, Fice, and the nation's association of components manufacturers, AEC, have signed a new labor agreement with the unions, leading them to cancel a previously planned strike. Aside from new clauses on flexible schedules and other issues, the new contract calls for wage increases of 1.0 percent for 2014 and 0.5 percent for 2015. The workers had seen their wages raised by 0.5 percent and 0.6 percent in 2013. The employers had originally proposed increases of 0.6 percent in 2014 and 0.5 percent in 2015, but the unions had judged them insufficient, requesting raises of 0.6+0.4 percent this year and 0.6 percent next year.
