The Swiss shoe retailers' association, SSV, foresees a difficult business year in 2013. At its annual general assembly at the beginning of June, Dieter Spiess, president of the association, criticized the high wholesale prices charged to Swiss retailers, who have to pay about 30 percent more than their foreign colleagues because of the inflated value of the Swiss franc. SSV is currently in discussions with two buying groups, Zusa and ANWR-Garant, to define a common approach to this problem. The price differential is leading Swiss consumers to shop across the border in German, French, Italian and Austrian stores. The local shoe retailers are also facing increasing competition from online retailers like Zalando.
