Timberland strikes another blow for the environment, announcing that it is going to launch two new collections of shoes using recycled tires for the outsoles. The company says it will be the first footwear manufacturer to use Green Rubber proprietary and patented technologies, producing 200,000 of the new shoes for this autumn. The technology uses a blend of the Green Rubber compound along with virgin rubber compound for an outsole material that is 42 percent recycled tire crumb. Timberland said that 1.2 billion tires are disposed of in landfills every year.
