The American company, famous for its “One for One” program, has added a collection of handbags, travel bags and similar products to its product range. The bags collection will be available from spring/summer 2015. For each bag purchased, Toms will provide for a safe birth for a mother and a baby in need, in line with its other “giving products,” one pair of shoes or one pair of glasses for a child in need for every pair bought by its customers.
The collection of bags, presented for the first time at the Premium show held in Berlin this July, is made in China and in some other countries where Toms carries out its donation programs. Blake Mycoskie, who founded Toms Shoes in 2006, recently said that he wants one-third of its products made in “giving” countries.
As previously reported in Shoe Intelligence, Toms opened its first European flagship store in Amsterdam in April this year. The boutique offers Toms' collection of eyewear, sandals, bags as well as coffee. For each cup of coffee, it will donate one week of drinking water, in five countries where it sources its coffee beans.
The coffee product range, which is bought directly from local farmers and roasted in the U.S., was launched at the beginning of this year in the U.S. and introduced to Europe in April. The company is planning to roast the coffee in Europe for sale in European markets.
Toms also opened a mono-brand store owned by the company in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates a few days ago. It is the fourth mono-brand store worldwide.
Mycoskie announced at the beginning of July that 15 million pairs of shoes have been donated since the company's creation in 2006. As of June 2014, Tom has helped restore sight through sight-saving surgery, prescription glasses or medical treatments to more than 200,000 individuals around the world since its launch of eyewear in July 2012.
After the opening of a new subsidiary in Amsterdam, Toms EMEA, to coordinate its business operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the company created 15 new positions and currently employs 33 people at its Dutch office.
Toms has expanded its sales network in Europe by hiring new distributors on board in Turkey, Portugal, the Czech Republic, the Middle East, Hungary, Slovakia and Israel, all starting to sell from spring/summer 2014.
