Weyco Group's sales increased by 16 percent to $75 million in the first quarter, thanks in part to the acquisition of Combs and its Bogs brand in March 2011, which lifted its North American wholesale revenues to $56.6 million for the period. Stacy Adams and Nunn Bush performed well too, rising by 17 and 13 percent, respectively, but the Florsheim brand recorded a 2 percent decline at wholesale in North America. With seven fewer stores in the U.S. compared with a year ago, the group's retail sales through Florsheim and on the internet rose by only 1 percent to $5.7 million in North America. Including the retail and wholesale operations of Florsheim in Europe and Australia, other revenues were up to $13.0 million from $11.4 million a year ago. Sales in Australia went up by 17 percent in U.S. dollars and by 12 percent in Australian dollars. The higher revenues led to an increase in operating profit to $5.8 million for the group in the quarter, compared with $4.8 million, and to an increase in attributable profits to $3.9 million from $3.4 million.
