Xtep, the Chinese retailer and maker of sportswear and footwear, had a huge jump of 129 percent in net income to 508 million renminbi (€55.2m-$74.4m) for the 2008 fiscal year. Annual revenues grew by 110 percent to RMB 2.867 billion (€311.6m-$420.0m). Both the top and bottom lines benefited from the Beijing Games last August. Footwear units grew by 76 percent to 18.3 million pairs as their average wholesale price rose by 5 percent to RMB 73.20 (€7.95-$10.75). Apparel unit volume increased by 145 percent to 21.5 million units with an average wholesale price of RMB 56.40 (€6.15-$8.25). Xtep, which operated 5,532 retail doors at year-end, said store sales grew by 26 percent in 2008 and should grow double-digits again this year.
