Yoox has launched a new environmental preservation initiative in connection with Earth Day. The big Italian e-tailer, which is about to go public, has opened a new section of its virtual store, called Yooxygen, that offers a variety of eco-friendly clothing and accessories, including for example Camper shoes made with jute and coconut fiber. Customers are encouraged to support the main partner of this initiative, Green Cross International, the environmental NGO founded by Mikhail Gorbachev. The company will used recycled packaging for its 2 million shipments this year, and any carbon emission generated by its shipment operations will be compensated for with tree replanting and other investments. While striving for ISO 14001 environmental certification, Yoox will use hybrid-powered vehicles and organize car-sharing for its employees.
