Yue Yuen Industrial has halted production at its large facility in Guandong Providence because of a strike by its workers. According to China Labor Watch, more than 7,000 workers walked out of their jobs at the Yucheng shoe factory in the Yue Yuen Industrial Park of Hungjiang, near Dongguan, leading to some injuries in clashes with police and public security personnel. The workers were reportedly criticizing cuts in performance bonuses because of the factory's losses and the dismissal of 18 section managers, which was said to be in preparation for a move of the factory to a cheaper location. New Balance is one of the clients of the plant. Yue Yuen has told Taiwan's official news agency that the unrest will have little impact on the group's broader manufacturing operations and that negotiations with the workers are under way.
